JORDAN NAMED TIMBERS' MAY "MAN OF THE MONTH"
Jordan selected by fans in first "Man of the Month" poll in 2007
PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Timbers forward Bryan Jordan was selected by fans as May's "Man of the Month" recording two goals, an assist and was selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week twice in the first full month of the season. He is the first fan-voted "Man of the Month" recipient in 2007.
Among the players who made an impact on the pitch for the Timbers during the month of May, Jordan, 21, was selected by fans in a poll on the Timbers' website www.portlandtimbers.com.
A rookie from Oregon State University, Jordan has worked his way into a starting role since the beginning of the season. In his last three USL First Division matches, all starts, Jordan has scored two goals and recorded an assist and is currently second on the team in goals and points (5). Jordan has appeared in each of the Timbers six matches this season.
Jordan scored his first professional goal May 9 in an international exhibition match against Mexican side Club Necaxa Elite at PGE Park. His strike in the 46th minute gave the Timbers a 1-0 win in their first international exhibition match of the season.
Jordan and the Timbers leave for a two-game road trip Thursday to play the Montreal Impact on June 8 and the Rochester Raging Rhinos on June 9. Timbers defeat OUSA U-23s 2-1 in Eugene Saturday
The Portland Timbers defeated the Oregon United Soccer Academy U-23 squad 2-1 in Eugene, Ore., at Sheldon High School Saturday night. Forward Jaime Ambriz tallied a goal in the first half while midfielder Kiki Lara scored on a penalty kick late in the second. The Timbers were ahead 2-0 when the OUSA squad scored late in the match to make the final score 2-1.
Assisted by new midfielder Tom Taylor, Ambriz scored in the first half to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Late in the match, sub David Hague was fouled in the box by the OUSA goalkeeper to set up the late PK. Lara delivered to give the Timbers a 2-0 lead.
OUSA scored in the closing minutes to spoil Timber goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin's clean sheet.
The Timbers starting line up featured trialist, midfielder Miguel Duante. Duante played collegiately at the University of Portland.

Bagley Nears 50-Game Mark
A handful of Timbers players have reached or are near career statistical markers through the first six matches of the 2007 season. Forward Chris Bagley needs to play in just one more match to have played in 50 regular-season USL First Division matches in his career. Defender Lee Morrison played in his 105th regular-season match for the Timbers on May 11 and now needs just 19 more before he reaches current head coach Gavin Wilkinson at 124 games - third-most in modern franchise history.
Now with 41 career goals in the USL First Division, midfielder Andrew Gregor, this season, is currently fourth in the league in points (9), second in goals (4) and has taken 19 shots in six matches to lead the league. The Bakersfield Brigade Men’s PDL team received notice today from the U.S. Soccer Federation that they will host the Portland Timbers in the first round of tournament play on Tuesday June 12 at 7:30pm at Bakersfield Christian High School.
“Bringing the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup to Bakersfield is history in the making and we’re all very excited to be part of it,” stated Brigade Vice President and General Manager Joe Jimenez.
The Brigade qualified for the US Open Cup earlier this month and in fact were the first, out of all 63 PDL teams competing for a spot, to be given a birth into the tournament. In addition, the Brigade used only three of their four qualifying games to secure that birth, defeating the Fresno Fuego on April 28th (0-3), the OC Blue Star on May 5 (0-1) and the Lancaster Rattlers on May 18 (5-1).
“This is a great opportunity to showcase the talent of our team against the talent of a USL Division 1 team (Portland Timbers) at home and in front of our fans,” stated Brigade Head Coach Francisco Gomez.
The winner of the match will move on to the 2nd Round of the tournament and will face either the Banat Arsenal of the USASA or the Seattle Sounders of the USL’s First Division. The winner of the 2nd round will face a team from the MLS.

U.S. Soccer unveils first round pairings Tuesday
PORTLAND, Ore. - U.S. Soccer announced today the first round pairings of the 2007 U.S. Open Cup Tournament. The Portland Timbers will travel to face the Bakersfield Brigade of the USL Premier Development League (PDL) on June 12 in Bakersfield, Calif. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Bakersfield Christian High School.
All 32 lower-division clubs in the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), PDL, USL Second Division and USL First Division were paired according to geographical region. Eight Major League Soccer teams enter the tournament in the third round. The 16 first-round winners face off in Round 2, slated for June 26.
The Timbers are currently sixth in the USL First Division with a record of 3-1-2 (12pts). Led by midfielder Andrew Gregor, the Timbers have outscored opponents 9-4. Goalkeeper Josh Wicks has recorded three consecutive shutouts as the Timbers defense has not conceded a goal in the last 282 minutes of play.
With a record of 2-2-0 in U.S. Open Cup play, the Timbers have reached as high as the fourth round of the tournament in both 2004 and 2005.
The Brigade are currently ranked fifth in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference in the PDL. The Brigade was the first PDL team to clinch a US Open Cup berth with three consecutive wins in qualifying matches. With a record of 3-3-0 (9pts), the Brigade are led by forward Santiago Aguilera-Navarro, who has scored five goals, and goalkeeper Isreal Cisneros, who has recorded two shutouts, allowed just four goals in five games and has a goals-against average of 0.80.
Established in 2005, this is the Brigade's first U.S. Open Cup berth.

Timbers remain unbeaten at home
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers battled expansion side, the Carolina Railhawks, to a 0-0 draw in front of 5,026 at PGE Park Sunday night. The Timbers were held scoreless for just the second time this season despite an extra man as a Carolina player was sent off in the first half. Led by goalkeeper Josh Wicks, the Timbers defense continued its streak of shut out play.
Wicks recorded his third consecutive shut out of the season as the Timbers (3-1-2, 11pts) have not allowed a goal in 282 minutes. With the draw against Carolina (3-2-4, 13pts), the Timbers maintain an unblemished record of 3-0-2 at home.
The Timbers couldn't capitalize on a one-man advantage during the final 51 minutes of play. Carolina midfielder Jonny Steele was ejected from the match in the 39th minute after being issued his second caution of the night with a hard tackle on defender Scot Thompson.
Both teams had scoring opportunities through the first half. In the 22nd minute, Carolina forward Chris Carrieri chipped a shot wide of the far post from the top left corner of the six-yard box.
In the 28th minute, midfielder Andrew Gregor nearly scored his fifth goal of the season with a 19-yard free kick from the top right corner of the box. His shot bent around Carolina's four-man wall towards the top near corner of the goal but Railhawks goalkeeper Chris McClellan snagged the ball before it could sneak in.
The Timbers out shot Carolina 6-2 in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net. The Timbers had 11 total shots in the match.
With an 11-day layoff until their next regular-season match, the Timbers face Montreal and Rochester on the road in back-to-back matches June 8 and 9. The Timbers will play a scrimmage on Saturday, June 2 against the Oregon United Soccer Academy U-23 team at Sheldon High School in Eugene. Jordan scores a goal and assists another in Timbers victory
PORTLAND, Ore. - Forward Bryan Jordan netted his second goal of the season and tallied an assist to help the Portland Timbers defeat the California Victory 2-0 at PGE Park Friday night in front of 4,795. With the match's attendance, the Timbers creep to within a few hundred fans to eclipse the 500,000 regular-season attendance mark.
The Timbers (3-1-1, 10pts) defense held the Victory (0-3-1, 1pt) to only three shots in the match helping goalkeeper Josh Wicks record his second shut out victory of the season. The Timbers have played 192 consecutive minutes of shut out soccer, the last goal allowed was in the 78th minute in the match against Seattle at PGE Park on May 11.
Defender Scot Thompson contributed to the victory scoring his first goal of the season in the 9th minute -also his first goal since June of 2006.
With the win the Timbers are now 3-0-1 at home and have outscored opponents 9-3 at PGE Park.
With Friday's attendance of 4,795, the Timbers are within a few hundred fans to break the 500,000 regular-season attendance mark. Since 2001, and including the 2007 season the Timbers have had 499,263 fans visit PGE Park for Timbers matches.
The Timbers jumped on the board in the 9th minute courtesy of Thompson. The play developed on a free kick by midfielder Andrew Gregor at the top right corner of the penalty area. His ball into the box connected with defender Cameron Knowles, but Knowles' shot was deflected by California goalkeeper Eric Reed out to Jordan on the wing. Jordan slotted the ball to Thompson, four yards out from goal, who re-directed the ball inside the far post for an early Timbers' lead.
In the 54th minute Jordan gave the Timbers a 2-0 lead over the Victory cleaning up a loose ball in front of the net. Gregor, on the right touch line about 30 yards from goal, sent a cross to forward Chris Bagley on the far post. Bagley's header was stopped by Reed, who appeared to take control of the ball. But Jordan found the loose ball and finished it for his second goal of the season and second in three matches.
The Timbers play their second match in three days on Sunday at PGE Park when they face the Carolina Railhawks at 6 p.m.

Timbers sign a third goalkeeper, Steve Reese, for 2007 season
The Timbers announced today the signing of goalkeeper Steve Reese for the 2007 season. Reese, who played for the PDL Cascade Surge in 2006, has played professionally overseas in Romania and England and spent time with Major League Soccer's Red Bull New York in 2004.
Last season with the Surge, Reese was 1-4-0 in six appearances. He played 367 minutes, recorded 26 saves and allowed nine goals for a 2.70 goals-against average. Reese, 26, was an assistant coach for the women's program at Oregon State University in 2006 and is the Director of Coaching for a youth club he started in Salem, Ore.

Breaking up another extended break between regular-season matches, the Timbers will travel to Eugene to face the Oregon United Soccer Academy's U-23 team on June 2 at Sheldon High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tickets are $6.
Prior to the match, there will be a free futsal clinic ran by OUSA coach and Brazilian native Jose da Silva from 3-4 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m.
